From The Beginning – The History of ATS

The business was commenced as a sole trader with Ron Asquith undertaking some bookkeeping work for one client part-time while still working full time. In January 1986 a small office was established in the CML building in Albury. At that time, there were established firms within the region but not many smaller firms.

The opportunity became available to acquire a small Corowa practice in 1987 and it was decided to operate as a merged business until the principal of the firm in Corowa retired. Ron Asquith & Bill Crump worked together until Bill retired in 1989.


The dual offices in Albury & Corowa continued to operate and Mr Brad Trotman joined the firm as a Partner.

The Albury practice moved to a new location on the corner of Macauley St and Dean St Albury. It was an old two storey building that was then renovated to accommodate a downstairs reception & staff room with offices upstairs. The Partners were kept busy travelling between Albury & Corowa but it worked well as the practices grew.


By 1994 it was becoming difficult for the Partners to oversee two full time offices with support staff and to manage the growth in both areas. A decision had to be made as to which office to retain and which office to sell. It was a close call as both offices had potential for further growth. It was decided to sell the Corowa practice, which still exists by another name, and to concentrate on building the Albury office.


Ron & Brad were joined by Gerard Spence as a third Partner. Gerard had previously worked with the ATO and in his own firm in St Kilda before moving to this region.

The three Partners decided that more office space was required due to growth in the firm. A new office building had become available in Melrose Drive Wodonga and it was decided to relocate to this office.

Internal renovations to the building were completed which provided accommodation for additional staff.


The Partners established a separate financial advice business having previously referred this work to other financial planning firms. This was the first step towards establishing a range of business and advisory services beyond the traditional tax compliance work.


As the entire floor space in the West Wodonga location was fully occupied, it was decided to move to a larger building. The current office was acquired and internal renovations were completed to establish consulting rooms. Interaction among team members was enhanced through an open plan work area.


Asquith Trotman & Spence, now known as ATS welcomed Allison Jenvey and Rick Horne into the firm.

Allison became a Director of ATS on the departure of Brad Trotman.


ATS was nominated for and subsequently won the excellence in Professional Business Service at the Business Chamber Awards.

This was recognition for the significant work that had been undertaken in building a recognised & trusted name in the region.

Importantly, this was achieved through the participation of staff in a range of practice development and improvement areas.


The trading name was changed from ATS Accountants to ATS Partners. The change recognised that the services provided by the firm had expanded beyond traditional accounting & tax and that the firm was a “partnership” – internally with staff and externally with clients and service providers.


After many years of providing high-quality support to clients, along with a leadership role within the firm, Craig Hollis was appointed to the position of Director.

Craig joined Ron, Gerard & Allison in providing strategic direction to the firm.


Ulf Ericson and Lisa Beckett joined the firm following the merger of the business previously conducted by Ulf through Huon Partners in Lavington. Consistent with other mergers, the introduction of Ulf & Lisa to the firm has provided additional high level expertise to ATS.

Lisa joined Ron, Gerard, Allison & Craig as a Director of ATS Partners. This appointment recognised Lisa's significant skills and commitment to maintaining the high-level service to clients. Ulf has taken on an advisory role to our Board and continues to consult widely to clients.
